Improving your wellbeing with exercise and the great outdoors!

How the outdoors and exercise can improve your wellbeing

Living on the Northern Beaches we’re exposed to a beautiful natural scenery. Generally, we feel fantastic when we’re outdoors in the natural environment. This is due to our body circulating ‘good feeling’ endorphins and neurotransmitters.

Exercise also makes us feel good too. When we exercise our bodies release neurotransmitters that improve our mood. This happens with any physical activity we perform and is not exercise specific. The Australian Physical Activity Guidelines recommends 150 minutes of low to moderate intensity physical activity or 75 minutes of vigorous intensity physical activity per week. This has also been shown to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and improve mental wellbeing.

Exercising outdoors is a great way of staying fit, preventing some chronic health conditions and improving mental wellbeing. Why not get around the great outdoors? Whatever your choice of exercise, you’ll feel great!
