Optimizing Recovery Part 3: Mindset and beliefs.

Our mind is a powerful thing.  If you believe that your injury is going to take a long time to recover, it IS going to take a long time to recover. There may be set timelines that can not be skipped, such as a fracture healing times, however generally speaking the healing process is not something that takes years. Additional mental factors such as work or relationship stresses can also play a major role in slowing down the healing process. Stress manifests itself in many different ways and a very common way is in muscular tightness and/or stiffness. This is similar to last week, where we talked about how inflammation can decrease our ability to function/move, ultimately hampering our recovery timeline. Recognizing and addressing our beliefs or contributing stresses can significantly speed things up. So take a deep breath, calm down, and know you are healing- you will get better!
